Dr. Newman was a Baptist scholar who wrote extensively on church history, anti-paedobaptism, and the like.

This 2 vol. set goes through the foundations of the early church through the 20th century Church in England and the United States, along with information such as the Church in Russia, etc. Including literature and controversies in the early centuries of the Church, this book offers a great, largely impartial overview.

First written in 1899, this was excellent theological textbook material during its day.
